If your laptop is plugged in but not charging, work through these checks in order — most charging problems are simple to fix at home.
1
Check the outlet and cable
Plug something else into the same outlet to confirm it has power, and inspect the charging cable for kinks, fraying, or a loose connector.

2
Reseat the charger at both ends
Firmly unplug and replug the adapter at the wall and at the laptop — a slightly loose barrel or USB-C plug is the #1 cause.

3
Confirm you're using the right charger
Underpowered or third-party chargers may not deliver enough wattage. Use the adapter that came with your laptop.

4
Look for a charging light
Most laptops have a small LED that glows when charging. No light usually points to the adapter or port, not the battery.

5
Let it cool down
A very hot battery will pause charging to protect itself. Shut down, let it cool for 15–20 minutes, then try again.

Try a power drain reset
Shut down, unplug the charger, hold the power button 30 seconds, then plug in and power on. This clears a stuck power controller.
